Mills stunned by ‘strange’ Tottenham U-turn on Nuno

Danny Mills has admitted he is baffled Tottenham now want to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back insisted the Portuegese would be a “good fit for Spurs”.

It was announced days before the end of last season that Nuno would leave Wolves after the final day.

There was speculation about him then taking over at Spurs but it is widely reported that the club were not interested.

Football Insider learned today (25 June) though he has now agreed personal terms with Tottenham but there are still a few issues to be ironed out.

It is understood new managing director Fabio Paratici is the driving force behind their pursuit of the 47-year-old.

Asked whether Nuno was the right candidate for the north London outfit, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I thought it was a good fit for Spurs when he left Wolves then all of a sudden it wasn’t.

“It seemed like ‘Yes, that’s would work really well’ and I was expecting it to be done and dusted and then it wasn’t.

“It’s a strange situation where Tottenham turned it down and now want to get back together again.

“It does seem a slightly odd one that they’ve gone through so many different options and are now back to the start again.”

Nuno spent four seasons in charge of Wolves.

He guided them to promotion from the Championship before securing successive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League. The Molineux outfit finished the last campaign in 13th.

In other news, Tottenham have been backed to appoint a 56-year-old after a BBC reveal.
