Mills tips Simms to leave Everton in January after confirmed news
Danny Mills has tipped Ellis Simms to leave Everton on loan in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England defender whose son Stanley is an Everton Under-23s teammate of Simms’ delivered his verdict after Simms signed a new deal with the club.
The Blues confirmed this week (November 16) the 20-year-old had put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
He is yet to make his first-team debut but has been named on the bench on three occasions this term.
Simms spent the second half of last season on loan with Blackpool and scored 10 goals in 24 games as they won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.
Asked whether he could benefit from another loan move in January, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, of course.
“At 20-years-old, he’ll be 21 in January, he needs to keep playing first-team football now.
“Everton don’t quite think he’s ready for their first-team yet but he’s gaining vital experience in training.
“It’s not to say he won’t be good enough for the first team and that is clearly the plan as they have given him a three-year deal.
“He just needs to keep learning and keep improving, that’s all he can do. He played well last season on loan and, as a player, that’s all you can do.
“Eventually you get your chance and you should be ready for your chance. If you take it you then move up the ladder.”

Simms has scored 17 goals in 36 games for Everton’s Under-23s side.
At Under-18s level, he found the net 41 times in 44 appearances.
In other news, Everton could be forced to sell Richarlison after a £35m reveal from Kieran Maguire.
