Mills: Tottenham told to swoop for Nuno after source’s update

Tottenham should make a U-turn and appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their next manager, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Premier League defender suggested the 47-year-old’s contacts could help Daniel Levy secure bargain deals on Portuguese players.

Football Insider understands from a Spurs source that the club have no plans to interview Nuno after he announced his departure from Wolves last week.

Instead, Tottenham have identified a three-man shortlist and are confident of confirming an appointment this week.

Levy penned an open letter to the club’s supporters last Wednesday claiming the new boss will bring “free-flowing, attacking and entertaining” football to the club.

Asked whether Nuno would be a good fit for the north London club, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, definitely.

“Yes is the answer. I think that would be a very good move for Tottenham to make.

“Not being disrespectful to Wolves but that would be another level up for him.

“Daniel Levy will be using his contacts to get cheaper players, Portuguese players probably.

“At the moment everybody’s jumped off the manager merry-go-round, or being pushed. Nobody’s jumped back on it yet but once one does it will be like musical chairs.

“The moment  one jumps on it will be a mad panic to who can get a job and who gets left behind?”

Nuno took charge of Wolves for the final time on Sunday as they lost 2-1 to Manchester United at Molineux.

He spent four seasons in charge of the Midlands outfit and guided them to two seventh-place finishes and a Europa League quarter-final before finishing 13th this season.

In other news, Tottenham don’t want a big name who started their last five games to play for the club again.
