Mills: West Brom may struggle to appoint top manager after Wilder twist

West Brom may struggle to appoint a top manager as a number of Premier League positions become vacant.

That is the view of ex-Leeds United and England right-back Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the Baggies remain in the market for a new boss.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (June 5) that they had pulled the plug on appointing Chris Wilder after holding extensive talks.

This site then revealed on the same day that Albion had made contact with Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton.

The former West Brom midfielder, 45, is now the frontrunner to succeed Sam Allardyce.

“It all comes down to who you can get with the circumstances of the football club,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If you’re selling a lot of players and getting rid of a lot of loan players and then all of a sudden you thought you had a good manager and then you don’t.

“That’s difficult. Now the managerial merry go round is pretty much in full swing. It’s now spinning at a pace. A lot of people are flying off it, not a lot of people are getting on it.

“They’re all struggling and waiting. Managers will be looking at the situation and just think ‘Hang on a minute, I’ll just wait. Something better might come in, there might be a better deal that comes in with better prospects.’

“Just sit tight for a couple of weeks and see what happens.”

Conor Gallagher, Mbaye Diagne, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all returned to their parent clubs at the end of the season following their loan spells with West Brom.

In other news, a West Brom star has told friends he is “very keen” to join West Ham as a bid is readied.
