‘Milos Kerkez wants Anfield move but Liverpool leave door open for Man City hijack’

Milos Kerkez may have a decision to make over his future this summer, with both Liverpool and Man City now interested in his services.

Following their Premier League title win this season, the Reds are looking to further strengthen their squad this summer, to hold off the threat to their crown from the likes of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Left-back is one position they appear to be targeting this summer, with Andy Robertson struggling to consistently replicate his past performances for Liverpool this season.

Another option on that side of the defence, Kostas Tsimikas, has been linked with Leeds United recently, having never fully established himself at Anfield.

Amid all that, Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move to sign Kerkez from Bournemouth when the summer transfer window reopens at the end of this season.

Now though, it appears they will have significant competition for his services once the market reopens.

Man City to chase Milos Kerkez

According to a new update from The i, Man City are now also interested in signing Kerkez ahead of next season thanks to Liverpool leaving the door open to them.

As per the report, Kerkez is interested in a move to Anfield this summer, with the Reds said to have held talks with his representatives already.

However, Liverpool are apparently still yet to make an official bid for the left-back, which could allow Man City to swoop in and pay the £45million that Bournemouth want for his sale.

Should that be the case, the 21-year-old may then have to decide whether to hold out for a move to Merseyside, or agree to join up with Guardiola‘s squad as an alternative.

The Reds are also said to be looking at Ajax’s Jorrel Hato and could move for him whether they sign Kerkez or not.

Liverpool must not miss out on Bournemouth agreement

Football Insider Verdict

Liverpool look set to make a fast start to the window with the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s acrimonious departure [Liverpool News], and they will want to back that up to make another statement of intent.

With left-back another area they need to strengthen, Kerkez is an obvious option given he has already proven himself in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

His age would make him a long-term asset and given they have been linked with him so long, there would plenty of frustration if they lost out on him to a latecomer in the race to sign him.

Pep Guardiola would surely like to beat Liverpool to Milos Kerkez

The fact that could be arguably their main rival in the form of Man City would only add to the sense of disappointment around Anfield if it happens.

It has been clear in the latter stages of this season that Liverpool will have to improve their squad if they are to have a chance of defending their title in the 2025/26 campaign.

As a result, it may be no surprise if this latest update does motivate them to spring into action, and make a decisive offer to Bournemouth for the signing of Kerkez.
