Mo Salah news imminent after Liverpool fail with Van Dijk offer – Ornstein

Mo Salah could soon take a step towards resolving the uncertainty around his Liverpool contract, according to an update from The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

There has been plenty of talks about the winger’s current situation recently, after he admitted he is “more out than in” at Anfield, with his deal due to expire at the end of this season.

The Premier League leaders though are seemingly taking steps in an attempt to change that, with the club apparently expected to offer him a new contract “soon”.

It comes after Liverpool are said to have made an offer of a new deal to captain Virgil van Dijk, who is also out of contract in the summer.

That is said to have come without a breakthrough over either the value of the deal of the length of contract, although talks are ongoing.

Mo Salah action may be a relief to Liverpool supporters

The fact that it does seem the club are at least moving towards offering Salah a new contract will be of some relief to supporters.

Even at 32-years-old, the Egyptian is still vital to Arne Slot’s side, and showed in the win over Man City at the weekend that he will surely be key to any hopes they have of winning trophies in the near future.

It would therefore be a major blow for Liverpool to lose him, and especially on a free transfer, as could be the case if nothing changes with his contract situation.

The fact an offer looks to be on the way though, indicates they are keen to rectify that situation, and retain the services of their key man.

Those connected with Liverpool will hope they are successful with that, and it will help to keep the positive mood going around the club amid their excellent season so far.

Even so, the fact that they are yet to make a breakthrough when it comes to Van Dijk’s contract, is a reminder that talks over a new contract here may not be all that simple either.
