‘Mo Salah puts Man United in Bruno Fernandes exit danger, talks previously held’

Bruno Fernandes has been the key man for Manchester United this season, but the Red Devils may have to fend off interest to keep him at the club.

The Portugal international has been one of the only shining lights in United’s dismal campaign, with the club sitting a lowly 15th in the Premier League.

Fernandes is United’s top scorer this season with eight league goals, and the attacking midfielder has also picked up nine assists.

The club captain has also performed admirably in the Europa League, with his seven goals and three assists keeping their hopes of a trophy alive.

Ruben Amorim could be under serious pressure at Man United if he doesn’t have a successful summer transfer window, and losing Fernandes could be detrimental.

Salah news moves focus onto Fernandes

Saudi club Al-Hilal had been targeting Mohamed Salah, before the Liverpool winger signed a new contract last month.

Now though, according to a report from MailOnline (5 May), Al-Hilal have switched their focus to Fernandes, and have the funds to make a massive bid after not splashing the cash on Salah.

The Mail add that there were initial talks between Fernandes’ camp and the Saudi club last year, but that the Red Devils themselves have no intention of letting their captain leave this summer.

It comes after former United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that losing Fernandes would be a “catastrophic blow” for Manchester United.

The midfielder has been at the club since signing from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, and has been captain since the summer of 2023.

Amorim can build around Fernandes

Football Insider Verdict

Amorim has a huge job on his hands rebuilding this Manchester United team, but one player who he will definitely need in his side if he wants to be successful is Fernandes.

At points this season the 20-time Premier League champions have been the laughing stock of the league, and without their skipper things could have been even worse for them.

Bruno Fernandes has been key for Man United in the Premier League this season

In the centre of midfield, Fernandes is one of the few players at the club who can drive his side forward with pace and quality, as well as popping up with goals regularly.

The current partnership of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte has been criticised for months now, with many believing that their combined lack of mobility and technical ability is hindering the side.

If United were able to bring in some attacking talent, then Fernandes would be able to drop slightly deeper and perhaps bring some much-needed quality to the centre of Amorim’s midfield.
