Mohamed Salah aims dig at Trent Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool post
Mo Salah has joked that Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold should not be awarded the opening goal from his side’s win over Fulham at Anfield last season.
That match proved to be a thrilling encounter that ended in a 4-3 win for the Reds, and the scoring began courtesy of a free-kick from the right-back.
Alexander-Arnold’s excellent set-piece though, appeared to come back off the bar and hit the back of Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno, meaning records show an own goal from the German.
With the two sides set to meet in a repeat of that fixture on Saturday (13 December), Liverpool have posted their goals from that game on their Instagram page.
Salah though, appears to have little sympathy for any claims Alexander-Arnold has to that opening goal, as he wrote in the comments: “I think that end up own goal”, accompanied by a laughing emoji.
Liverpool stars future unclear under Arne Slot ahead of Fulham
Football Insider Opinion
Unfortunately for Alexander-Arnold, it seems he may be denied the chance to claim that opening goal from this fixture last season as his.
The free-kick he struck was a brilliant one but given it had come back off the bar before hitting Leno, it technically would not have been going in without the keeper’s intervention, making this an own goal.

Even so, the right-back did still have a big say in this game for Liverpool by firing in an 88th minute goal to secure a dramatic victory for his side, which will ease any lingering frustration about losing the earlier strike.
It is also interesting to note the fact that there still does appear to be a good spirit in the Reds camp between the likes of these two despite a lack of clarity over their futures, along with that of Virgil van Dijk.
There has been plenty of talk about the futures of the duo as their current contracts run down. While Salah is expected to sign his, there seems to be less clarity when it comes to Alexander-Arnold.
Jokes such as this though suggest that is not affecting morale in the camp which is a positive for Liverpool as they compete for trophies on several fronts this season.
