Mohamed Salah: ‘Breakthrough in discussions’ in huge Liverpool update
Liverpool are still pushing to agree a new contract for Mohamed Salah but no agreement has been reached yet, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that every time Liverpool appear to have made a breakthrough in discussions, they are taken back to square one.
As things stand, an agreement is expected to come down to the finer details of the 32-year-old’s contract but the Reds want talks wrapped up before the season ends.
Arne Slot is keen to begin putting plans in place ahead of next season, but Salah’s future will need to be resolved before major decisions can be made.
Meanwhile, long-standing interest from Saudi Pro League clubs has lingered as they want to make the Egypt international the face of the division.
Saudi expert Paul Robinson told Football Insider in January that Al-Hilal are the favourites to sign Salah should he decide to leave Liverpool following Neymar’s return to Santos.

Liverpool and Mohamed Salah reach contract stalemate
Football Insider revealed in March that Salah’s Liverpool contract talks have been delayed as they have so-far been unable to reach an agreement about the length of the deal.
This is because the Reds are operating with a policy where they will not offer long-term contracts to players over the age of 30 – regardless of their place in the squad.
As a result of the ongoing deadlock in talks, there is a growing possibility that the winger will leave the club unless a deal can be reached in the coming weeks.
However, Liverpool are desperate not to lose all three of Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk in one window and remain determined to reach an agreement.
Football Insider revealed as early as September that Liverpool will do everything to keep Salah at the club and hope to deter Saudi interest.

Virgil van Dijk update emerges amid ongoing contract talks
On top of the ongoing speculation about Salah’s future, contract talks with Van Dijk have also stalled as a result of his demands over the length of the contract.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Bayern Munich have contacted Van Dijk’s agent to explore the possibility of a deal.
Meanwhile, the likes of PSG and Real Madrid have also been linked with moves to sign the 33-year-old should he opt to leave Liverpool.
As a result, Football Insider revealed Liverpool want to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan, and a £60million offer for the centre-back could be accepted.
