Mohamed Salah: Liverpool expected to agree pre-January deal – sources

Liverpool want to settle the future of talisman Mohamed Salah before the January window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (3 September) that the Reds will open talks with Salah “soon” after his on-air plea on Sunday (1 September).

Salah told Sky Sports this is his “last season” at the club as “nobody has talked to me” about a new deal.

His current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and the Egypt international is a long-term target for Saudi clubs, with Al Ittihad seeing a £150million bid rejected last summer (2023).

Contract talks will kick off soon and Liverpool expect to reach a resolution before the new year.

All focus had been on bedding in the new manager Arne Slot and the new recruitment staff – but sources say contract negotiations for key men like Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will now be the priority.

Liverpool want Salah resolution before January

As things stand, all three players can negotiate and agree a pre-contract with foreign sides on 1 January.

Liverpool are desperate to prevent that scenario and are ready to kick off talks with Salah following his electric start to the new campaign.

Salah has been at Anfield since 2017 and has won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup with the Merseysiders to cement his place in club history.
