Mohamed Salah: Pundit fears Liverpool star contract talks stalling after Echo update

Continued interest from Liverpool in Raphinha and Jarrod Bowen suggests contract negotiations are not progressing well with Mohamed Salah.

That is the view of ex-Spurs and Leeds United number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the potential signing of a right-winger in the summer window.

According to the Liverpool Echo (15 February), the Reds are still “looking” at right wingers with Leeds United’s Raphinha and West Ham’s Bowen “known to be of interest.”

West Ham

Liverpool already boast a formidable front line with Salah, Sadio Mane, Jota, Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain capable of operating out wide.

Robinson believes a winger would only arrive at Anfield in the summer if Salah leaves.

“If Liverpool are still interested in Raphinha and Bowen then I don’t think negotiations are going well with Salah,” he told Football Insider.

“I could only see Liverpool signing one of those two players if they were to lose Salah.

“Let’s be honest, neither of those two players are as good as Salah. I cannot see why Jurgen Klopp would buy another left-footed winger if Salah was going to sign a new deal. That wouldn’t make much sense to me.

“I think those two are seen more as a contingency plan.”

Liverpool

Salah has entered the final 18 months of his contract on Merseyside.

Football Insider understands (5 February) that Liverpool chiefs believe an extension can be agreed with the Egypt captain.

In other news, a pundit has claimed Ibrahima Konate could ‘force’ his Liverpool teammate into leaving the club.
