Mohamed Salah slammed by pundit after ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool quotes emerge

Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been “nowhere near” his best since the African Cup of Nations in February.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said the 30-year-old “has to take responsibility” for his form despite the fact “there is a lot of factors in play.”

Salah was withdrawn midway through the second half as Liverpool lost 3-2 to Arsenal on Sunday (9 October).

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (10 October), Jurgen Klopp cited an “unbelievable workload” as the reason behind the winger’s substitution.

Robinson suggested Salah is suffering from a “lack of confidence” of late.

“Having not played in that position I do not know exactly why he is struggling,” he told Football Insider.

“I suspect it is down to a lack of confidence. There is a lot of factors in play.

“Let’s be honest, it is not just this season. He has not been the same player since the African Cup of Nations. Salah was the best player in the world for the first half of last season. He was nowhere near those levels in the second half of the season though.

“His form has been indifferent. Liverpool’s front three has changed a lot over the last 12 months. Salah is playing with different players in a team that is struggling.

“The team is not creating the amounts of chances that they used to. He has to take some of the responsibility though.”
