Mohamed Salah stinks, Alisson incredible – Liverpool ratings in shock PSG win

Harvey Elliott saved the day as Liverpool claimed a shock 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc de Princes on Wednesday.

The Reds struggled to make an impact in the final third on 5 March, being suffocated in their own half by PSG for much of the 90 minutes, that was until the substitute fired home a late winner against all the odds.

Luis Diaz was the only Liverpool player to strike a shot until that moment, while PSG had unleashed close to 30 times on Alisson’s goal, many of which the Brazilian thwarted spectacularly.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia also had a goal disallowed in the first half, with a long VAR review judging him to be offside before scoring, and that would be the only time they hit the back of the net.

Mohamed Salah was almost invisible, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravernberch struggling in midfield, but Alisson remained strong and kept his side in the game.

It was a truly incredible ending to the match, with the Reds taking an unexpected lead back to Anfield for the second leg, but Slot will have no complaints about the defensive performance.

Alisson saves Liverpool teammates from PSG thrashing

Alisson – 10 – Man of the Match

Made a number of incredible saves to keep his side in the game at the Parc de Princes. Would have been a very different result without him. Unbelievable.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7

For a defender who apparently struggles to defend, he dealt with Kvaratskhelia very well, only falling away when the Georgian winger drove inside into the middle of the park.

Ibrahima Konate – 5

Could have been sent off during the first half, causing a massive problem for his teammates, but he remained on the pitch after a lengthy VAR review. Remained strong after that.

Virgil van Dijk – 5

Some strange decisions from the stalwart defender but clearly just a bad day at the office for van Dijk, who has continuously shown up for Liverpool over the years. Also booked for timewasting.

Andy Robertson – 6

A stable display from the Scotland international. Made tackles against tricky forwards when called upon and felt more comfortable with support around him.

Ryan Gravenberch (Off for Wataru Endo 79′) – 5

Was slightly careless in possession but remained strong without the ball, making sure PSG stayed as far away from the penalty area as possible.

Mohamed Salah disappears at Parc de Prances

Alexis Mac Allister – 5

Far from the Argentine’s best performance in a Liverpool shirt.

Mohamed Salah (Harvey Elliott 86′) – 2

Salah, who could be in his final season at Liverpool, was totally devoid of ideas and majorly invisible on the right flank.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7

Was one of the only bright attacking sparks for the Reds on the night, though when trying to escape his own half, there was little help around him.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot
Arne Slot will be buzzing with Liverpool’s win.

Luis Diaz (Off for Curtis Jones 67′) – 4

Much like his teammates in the final third, he was unable to make much of an impact in the final third but did have one small chance during the first half.

Diogo Jota (Off for Darwin Nunez 67′)- 3

Arne Slot will not have gained any more trust in Jota following a poor display in Paris, losing far too many duels and not offering a proper figure upfront.

Substitutes

Darwin Nunez (On for Jota 67′) – 8

Gave the PSG defenders something to think about, doing incredibly well to win the ball in the air, and feed the ball to Elliott, who scored the winner.

Curtis Jones (On for Diaz 67′) – N/A

Wataru Endo (On for Gravenberch 79′) – 7

Made an incredible tackle to stop a counter-attack with just nine minutes remaining. Much-needed intervention in Paris.

Harvey Elliott (On for Elliott 86′) – 8

Put the cherry on top following all of Liverpool’s defending, scoring an amazing winner with just two minutes of normal time left on the clock.
