Mohamed Salah: The truth about Liverpool bombshell and new mega contract plan

Mohamed Salah’s unexpected early-season media blitz is part of a carefully constructed strategy to further build his profile and coax Liverpool into offering him a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old marched on to the Old Trafford touchline straight after Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Man United and dropped a bombshell live on air, claiming this is his “last season” at the club and “last match” at one of his favourite hunting grounds.

That resonated with supporters of the Merseyside giants given that Salah had just delivered another Old Trafford masterclass, in which his goal and two assists ensured the Arne Slot era has been given a real lift-off.

Salah’s current three-year deal is due to expire next June, when he will be free to accept what will surely be many highly lucrative offers from rival clubs, including the riches expected from Saudi Arabia.

It’s believed that, privately, the forward wants to stay at Anfield beyond next June as he hopes to smash club and Premier League records and be remembered as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever player.

However, the Egypt international will not want to accept a pay cut or less valuable contract as he enters his mid-30s.

He is currently believed to be the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history on £350,000-a-week.

Despite his current deal expiring at the end of this season, Salah informed Sky Sports that nobody in the club has yet spoken to him about a new contract.

Liverpool did reject a £150million offer from Al-Ittihad for Salah in the summer of 2023.

Salah has been a virtual untouchable in the Liverpool team since joining the club in 2017, making 352 appearances in all competitions.

The versatile forward has been a constant goal threat during that time, scoring 214 goals and providing 92 assists.

Salah continued to haunt Man United at Old Trafford this past weekend, having scored in all of his last seven visits to the stadium.

Salah has started the new campaign in impressive form with three goals and three assists in Liverpool’s opening three games.

The Reds currently sit second in the Premier League table, being one of only two teams to have made a perfect start.
