Mohamed Salah to decide Liverpool transfer – ‘It will be a last minute, deadline-day deal’

Mohamed Salah’s future could also decide whether Federico Chiesa departs Liverpool in the January transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Chiesa could leave Liverpool late in the transfer window.

Liverpool could be open to selling Chiesa, who has been a squad player for Arne Slot since his arrival in 2024.

The 28-year-old though could stay if Salah departs Liverpool, with a move to Saudi Arabia expected, after he previously criticised manager Arne Slot and the club before he went off to the African Cup of Nations [AFCON].

Federico Chiesa ‘could move’ away from Liverpool

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is “surprised” that Slot has not called upon Chiesa more often.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes Chiesa could leave Liverpool at “the last minute” in January.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If he [Salah] comes back after AFCON and he’s healthy, then I think Chiesa could move.

“So that will all happen before the end of the window. So I think it will depend a lot on the Mo Salah situation. Chiesa has been a big Liverpool fan favourite and I know that.

“Listen, I’ve been quite impressed with him. I’m still surprised he hasn’t been able to find his place in the squad, as for whatever reason Slot doesn’t seem to go for him. I think Chiesa could move, but it will depend on the situation of other players, but it would be one of the last minute, last day, deals, but it could happen.”

Liverpool star also faces uncertain future

Andy Robertson has also become a squad player for Liverpool this season, with Milos Kerkez preferred at left-back.

Celtic are monitoring Robertson’s situation, and could make a move for the 31-year-old in the summer when his contract expires.

Liverpool have been keen to extend Robertson’s contract, with the Scotland international having been at Anfield since 2017, making over 250 appearances for the club.
