‘Mohamed Salah to Saudi is imminent’ after Liverpool TV reveal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Liverpool will be working on their plans to replace Mohamed Salah after his “surprising” media comments.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the 32-year-old’s Saudi Pro League move is “imminent” ahead of the next summer window, when he will be out of contract.

Salah told NBC Sports in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday (24 November): “We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years.

“There is no club like this. But in the end, it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”

Salah, who has hit 12 goals and contributed 10 assists in 18 appearances this term, joined from Roma in 2017 and has become a Liverpool club legend.

Liverpool already working on Salah replacement, says Wyness

Wyness claimed the Egypt international comments were “strange”.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I was surprised to hear Mo speak out like that.

“He usually doesn’t speak to the media too much, and certainly to say what he said – it’s strange.

“I’ve been here before. You’ve got agents and players in the middle of a contract negotiation, you take a position and try and get the media to help that position.

“It’s difficult. I thought Salah going to Saudi was imminent in the summer, but it’s even more imminent in the coming summer.

“Liverpool have got to make a decision. They’ll be working on all their data points and working on how they can fill his spot if he is to go.”
