Mohamed Salah ‘to update journalists on Liverpool contract’

Mohamed Salah is likely to provide the next new update on his Liverpool contract situation in the mixed zone following a game.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the only concrete news about a new deal has come directly from the winger in post-match interviews.

Liverpool remain hopeful they can convince the 32-year-old to commit his long-term future to Arne Slot’s side, but no decision has been made yet.

Salah has been available to discuss a potential pre-contract deal over a move abroad since the start of January, but there was “no chance” any deal would have been agreed last month.

However, is contract situation is said to be a “huge concern” for the Reds because as things stand he will walk away for free in just four months’ time.

With the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also undecided, there are growing worries about the money it would cost to replace all three superstars.

Mohamed Salah to provide new Liverpool contract update

Salah remains a crucial player under Slot’s management, and scored his 26th goal of the season during the 4-0 Carabao Cup semi-final win against Spurs on 6 February.

His league form has also been outstanding, with 21 goals and 13 assists coming in just 23 Premier League outings so far as Liverpool remain on course for the title.

The Reds are determined to reward that form with a new contract, and to tie him down for the coming years as they continue to build on Slot’s excellent start to his time at Anfield.

However, the longer they go without a decision, the more likely it is that Salah will move on come the end of the season.

Former England goalkeeper and Saudi Pro League expert Paul Robinson told Football Insider last month that Al-Hilal are in pole position to sign Salah after Neymar’s departure.

Trent Alexander-Arnold update emerges amid Real Madrid interest

Alexander-Arnold has also been the subject of plenty of speculation regarding his future, but has yet to make a decision about a potential move to Real Madrid.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 4 February that the defender is currently leaning towards the move, but Liverpool remain confident they can keep him.

The right-back, similar to Salah, has been available to discuss a pre-contract move abroad since the start of January but remains undecided about his destination.

It has been said that winning the Premier League and competing in the latter stages of the Champions League could be enough to convince him to remain at Anfield.

However, as things stand, the move to Madrid remains a clear option for Alexander-Arnold and Brown explained that he would struggle to turn them down.
