Mohamed Salah ‘will stay at Liverpool’ as contract announcement date set

Mohamed Salah is likely to commit his future to Liverpool by signing a new contract despite ongoing uncertainty about his future.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 32-year-old’s agent is still working behind the scenes to find the best deal.

The Egypt international has been available to discuss terms over a pre-contract agreement since January, but is now said to be leaning towards staying at Anfield.

However, Football Insider revealed on 9 February that a new contract for Salah at Liverpool is not close and his situation remains uncertain.

Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal are in pole position to sign the Liverpool star should he opt to leave, while Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are both thought to be in the running.

However, Brown has insisted that Salah’s agent will use the interest to get a better deal for his client, and an announcement is not expected to take place until after the season ends.

The Reds remain determined to agree terms over a new deal after an outstanding season in which they are aiming to win both the Premier League and Champions League.

Mohamed Salah to sign new Liverpool contract after agent twist

Brown previously told Football Insider that the agent is leading speculation about Salah’s future at Liverpool as he wants to secure the best possible deal for his client.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that it is the intention of all parties for the winger to agree to new terms.

From what I hear, I think Salah will stay at Liverpool,” he told Football Insider.

“I’ve always expected him to stay, to be honest.

“But it won’t be finalised or announced until after the end of the season.

“His agent is working to secure the best deal he can for him, so he’ll squeeze every last drop out of Liverpool and that means dragging things on for a bit longer.

“He’ll take them to the wire before any real decision is made, but I think he’s going to stay.

“The one I’d be more worried about is Trent Alexander-Arnold and whether Real Madrid come calling for Van Dijk as well while they’re looking for new defenders.”

Arne Slot gives green light to Luis Diaz exit from Anfield

Salah is not the only big name being linked with an exit from Anfield this summer as the club plot a number of potential changes to Slot’s first-team squad.

Brown told Football Insider on 21 February that Liverpool plan to sell Luis Diaz and sign a world-class replacement to add to their attacking threat.

The 28-year-old is viewed as a sellable asset and sources say the Reds would consider offers upwards of £50million to let him leave amid interest from Barcelona.

The likes of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, meanwhile, have also been heavily linked with a move away as Slot plans to refresh his attacking options.
