‘Mohamed Salah won’t be in the Golden Boot race this season’

Mohamed Salah will not finish in the top three of the Premier League’s top goal-scorers this season.

That is the view of former England and Southampton star Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that he could see three other players outscoring the Egyptian star.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, the former Chelsea winger has scored 245 goals in 402 appearances, cementing himself as a legend for the Merseyside club.

For much of last season, Salah’s expiring Liverpool contract was a cause of concern, but the 33-year-old committed the next two years of his career to the Reds in April.

This summer, Arne Slot’s side have let go of the misfiring Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, signing Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz to replace them.

However, if they complete a deal for another Premier League goal-getter, it may cause a dip in Salah’s output.

Alexander Isak will ‘nick’ Mohamed Salah’s goals

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Liverpool are desperately keen to sign Alexander Isak this summer to complete a huge overhaul of the squad that won the Premier League title last season.

Le Tissier told Football Insider previously that if Isak joins the Reds, he will rival Erling Haaland for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, with new Arsenal man Viktor Gyokeres rounding out the top three.

But his arrival will come at a cost to the Egyptian winger and his goal-scoring numbers.

When asked about his exclusion of Salah from that list, Le Tissier told Football Insider exclusively: “That’s the one I had to leave out because I think if Isak goes to Liverpool, I think he could nick a fair chunk of Salah’s goals.

“That was my thinking when it came to the top three.”

Le Tissier also left Salah out of his top three to top the Premier League assist charts, telling Football Insider he thinks Bukayo Saka is likely to be the league’s best provider.

The Premier League icon told Football Insider exclusively: “That was again a really difficult one to leave out.

“I’m a big fan of Palmer and Saka and I just think that Fernandes has been so consistent with his goals and his assists that I think he might make a real difference this season.

“If you asked me for four, Salah would have been number four.”

Marc Guehi’s Liverpool talks stall over transfer fee

From one end of the pitch to the other, Liverpool remain keen on signing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider exclusively.

However, talks have stalled over the Eagles’ asking price for the England international.

Palace want £40million for the captain, who has one year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are holding out in the hopes that a deal can be struck in the region of £30-35m instead.
