Mohammed Kudus could quit with ‘West Ham running into points deduction issue’

West Ham posted a profit of £57.2million for the 2023-24 campaign but spent big money last summer (2024) to back sacked boss Julen Lopetegui.

The Irons’ managerial appointment didn’t work and Graham Potter subsequently arrived – and will want to be backed with his own signings in the upcoming summer window.

It has been reported that Saudi Pro League clubs have enquired about the availability of Mohammed Kudus ahead of the off-season.

Kudus, 24, is under contract until June 2028 and has a release clause for European clubs set at £85million.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed West Ham are “running towards” Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) issues at their current rate of spending.

West Ham may be forced to sacrifice Kudus this summer, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Kudus may have to be sacrificed “for the greater good” this summer.

PSR permits Premier League clubs to lose just £105million over three years – with points deductions on the table for any clubs in violation of the rules.

Wyness claimed Potter will want to “rebuild the squad” at the London Stadium this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s coming home to roost now, the spending from last summer.

“They are running towards PSR issues. They’ll have to look at selling talent to make some leeway for Potter to operate in.

“He’ll want to rebuild the squad.

“Kudus is the one I can see a way to move on. There’s no doubt he’s a talent, and he’s performed well – but he may be sacrificed for the greater good.

“They will run into issues. They could do a great deal now, rebuild the squad and move on.”

West Ham in contact with Lille star David

West Ham’s former scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider (22 March) that the Irons are prepared to rival Newcastle in their pursuit of prolific Lille striker Jonathan David.

Brown has claimed the 25-year-old’s agent has been speaking to the club’s directors.

Newcastle are also readying an offer for David, who will be available for free at the end of his contract at the end of this season.
