Mohamed Salah claims spark outrage as pundit slammed over Liverpool star

Alan Pardew has hit back at Troy Deeney’s controversial comments about Mohamed Salah, calling the Liverpool forward “world class” and urging Deeney to back his opinion with facts on TalkSPORT.

Deeney had suggested Salah lacked world-class qualities, favouring Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.’s flair over Salah’s efficient, no-frills style.

Former Newcastle and West Ham boss Pardew pointed out Salah’s exceptional statistics, including 165 Premier League goals and 221 goals for Liverpool, emphasising that his achievements speak for themselves.

Salah at present will be able to leave Liverpool for nothing at the end of the season when his contract expires, although talks are ongoing over a new deal.

“You know, it’s all good having an opinion, but if you’re going to have an opinion, back it up with some stats or some facts or some kind of foundation, said Pardew on talkSPORT.

“And I don’t know where Troy’s coming from with a foundation. Mo is no frills. There’s no frills. It’s efficiency that he’s about.”

Alan Pardew fumes at Troy Deeney over Liverpool forward

Football Insider opinion

The Egyptian winger has been instrumental in Liverpool’s recent trophy laden success, including winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Salah is renowned for his incredible pace, clinical finishing, and consistency, holding numerous records, such as being Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League era.

The Reds ace has won the Premier League Golden Boot three times: in 2017-18 (32 goals, a record for a 38-game season), 2018-19 (shared with Sadio Mané and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 22 goals), and 2021-22 (shared with Son Heung-min, scoring 23 goals).

Watford’s former captain Troy Deeney was taken to task over the Liverpool star.

Salah is not only a prolific goal-scorer but also a creative force, leading the Premier League in assists during the 2021-22 season with 13.

These stats underline Salah’s exceptional consistency, making him one of the best players of his generation.

In that context it is difficult to see how Deeney could downplay the Anfield legend’s accomplishments, and makes Pardew’s reaction all the more understandable.
