Moises Caicedo, Luis Diaz react to Brighton ace Julio Enciso as exit beckons

Luis Diaz and Moises Caicedo have reacted to a new post of Julio Enciso away from Brighton as he nears a Seagulls exit this summer.

Enciso showed a lot of promise in his first two seasons at Brighton, with a particularly notable strike against Man City in 2022/23 that went on to win the BBC’s Goal of the Season award.

He struggled to make an impact under Fabian Hurzeler at the start of last season, however, and so went out on loan to relegation-battlers Ipswich in the January window.

Enciso did well at Ipswich, with another stunning strike against Everton added to his showreel, and while he is now back with Brighton following the Tractor Boys’ relegation, it looks as if he will be on the move again this summer.

Julio Enciso posts holiday update amid Brighton exit talks

Former scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider on 19 June that Brighton are prepared to accept permanent offers for Enciso this summer, with the 21-year-old not set to be part of Hurzeler’s long-term plans.

Hurzeler is believed to be concerned about the number of players that want to leave the Seagulls ahead of the new season, yet Enciso looks set to be allowed to depart if a decent bid comes in for his services.

The Paraguay international does not seem like he is ready to make an imminent move, though, as he posted an update to his Instagram page on Friday (4 July) of him away on holiday, with a caption of wave, relaxed and diamond emojis.

His post was reacted to by a number of players, with Liverpool star Diaz and key Chelsea man Caicedo both leaving a like, while Omari Hutchinson, Daniel Munoz, Simon Adingra and Leif Davis all followed suit.

Enciso still has something to give in the Premier League

Football Insider verdict

It can be easy to write a player off if they don’t succeed at Brighton, where emerging talent always seems to come to the fore each season, but Enciso has shown that he is worthy of another chance in the top-flight ahead of the new campaign.

Him getting that chance at the AMEX Stadium looks unlikely, but there are bound to be some teams lower down the league that look at him as a potential option for depth in the number 10 role and on either wing.

The 21-year-old did impress in his short stint with Ipswich, despite their relegation, as he notched two goals and three assists in just 13 appearances for the club and was described by Kieran McKenna as a “quality” player who made “a big difference.”

He is likely out of the Tractor Boys’ reach now as they prepare for life back in the second-tier, but the likes of Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley could certainly do a lot worse than look to sign him for a cut-price deal this summer, especially given that Brighton want him off their books and he has just one year left on his contract.
