Moises Caicedo reacts to Nicolas Jackson message as Chelsea exit rumours intensify

Moises Caicedo reacted to a message from Chelsea teammate Nicolas Jackson amid rumours the striker may be departing Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues claimed the Conference League title with a 4-1 win over Real Betis on Wednesday (28 May), having also claimed a return to the Champions League in Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge of the club.

But although Jackson found the back of the net in the final, his dip in goal-scoring in the latter half of this season has not gone unnoticed.

When combined with the struggles faced by Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu, the Blues’ options at the number nine position are underwhelming at best.

This has spurred the West London club’s hierarchy into action, and Chelsea will sign Liam Delap this summer after the striker made them his priority over rivals Man United, Newcastle and Italian giants Juventus [The Athletic].

Nicolas Jackson shares message after Chelsea’s UECL victory

Whilst his future has been thrown into doubt, that did not stop Jackson from sharing an image of himself holding aloft the Conference League trophy on Instagram, captioned: “Pour le peuple” which translates to “For the people”.

The message was liked by Caicedo, showing support for his struggling Chelsea teammate.

Football Insider Verdict

Jackson’s indifferent performances for Chelsea this season have led to an expectation from fans that the striker will be sold this summer.

Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto revealed that several clubs had enquired about the Senegalese striker, adding that the ex-Villarreal striker “could be sold” if a “satisfactory” offer is received.

When combined with Delap’s slated arrival at Stamford Bridge, it is difficult to see where Jackson fits in at Chelsea next season.

The England U21 international is likely to be given priority as a starter when he completes his switch from Ipswich.

What’s more, whilst the deal is currently on hold, Chelsea could revive their pursuit of Joao Pedro, which would undoubtedly lead to them looking for a new home for Jackson.
