Monk sends Twitter message to Leeds fans after triumph against Sheffield Wednesday

Garry Monk has taken to Twitter to hail the “heart” and “attitude” of the Leeds players following their 1-0 league win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Monk’s side chiselled out a key victory over their derby and promotion rivals in a fiercely fought Championship encounter at Elland Road on Saturday.
Chris Wood’s first half goal was the difference between the two sides, although the other pivotal moment of the match came when Rob Green made a stunning penalty save to deny Jordan Rhodes early in the second period.
Manager Monk has had a habit this season of posting social media messages to supporters in the 24 hours before a match and then immediately after it.
He did so once against on Saturday afternoon as he praised the efforts of his players as well as the atmosphere generated at a sell-out Elland Road.

“A performance of real heart saw us claim another important three points today,” said Monk on his personal Twitter account. “Great attitude from the guys, amazing support from the fans.”

Leeds’ win over their top-six rivals has given them some breathing space in their bid to secure a place in the Championship play-offs.
Monk’s side are fourth in the table with a haul of 61 points from 34 matches, opening up an eight-point gap over Fulham in seventh.
