Monk admission: This is how Leeds players have reacted to consecutive defeats

By Alex Stevens

Garry Monk has claimed Leeds players have proved to him in training they will deliver the goods in Saturday’s league clash against Preston.

The Yorkshire giants have suffered two consecutive Championship defeats to end their hopes of automatic promotion while also putting a dent in their bid to secure a play-off spot.

But Monk is convinced that Leeds will bounce bank with an improved display at the weekend, when eighth-placed Preston, managed by ex-Elland Road boss Simon Grayson, are the visitors to Elland Road.

The manager admitted the frustration in the camp at the losses at Reading last Saturday, and at Brentford on Tuesday night, but spoke boldly of an immediate improvement.

“There is nobody more disappointed with the last two results than ourselves, we are determined to end that run on Saturday,” said Monk on Thursday afternoon at his weekly media briefing, as quoted by the official Leeds Twitter account.

“We can make this week a better week at the weekend, judging by the reaction in training, the players will be ready to do that.”

Monk also stressed how the players deserved them support of fans after transforming the fortunes of a club that had finished between 13th and 15th in the Championship in each of the previous five campaigns.

“You can never doubt our group, they have put Leeds back on the map this season and given everyone a team to be proud of,” added the manager.

Despite the setbacks at the Madejski Stadium and Griffin Park, Garry Monk’s side remain on course for a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

They are fifth in the Championship table, five points ahead of Fulham in seventh, with six matches of the campaign remaining.

In other Leeds transfer news, the club have sealed an out-of-window midfielder transfer.
