Morelos is ‘on his last warning’ at Rangers after frank update – pundit

Frank McAvennie claims Alfredo Morelos is “on his last warning” at Rangers despite scoring his 100th goal for the club today.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Fashion Sakala could force Morelos out of the Gers side.

Morelos, 25, has scored seven goals in 18 outings this season after notching 17 times during last year’s campaign.

As quoted by BBC Sport (20 October), Steven Gerrard has slammed Morelos’ goal record this season claim it is “not enough”.

However, the hitman did score his 100th goal for Rangers in today’s win over St Mirren.

The Gers have Fashion Sakala, Kemar Roofe and Jermain Defoe ready to slot in as a striker in Morelos’ absence.

McAvennie warned keeping the misfiring Columbian in the side could seriously dent the Gers’ title hopes.

“Gerrard knows he has a problem,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s why he hoarding strikers. It’s why Defoe can still be called upon.

“Strikers win you titles and they can lose you titles if they don’t perform.

“That fact of the matter is, Morelos is not performing as well as he can this season.

“There are plenty of players wanting to take his place because Rangers only use one striker.

“Are those boys on the bench going to like being sat behind a striker who isn’t scoring?

“Sakala has a point to prove. He could force Morelos out. Gerrard’s already had a go at him once.

“He won’t stand for more poor performances. He must be on his last warning now.”

Morelos brought up 100 goals for Rangers in 199 games.

He’s also chipped in with 45 assists during his time with the club.
