Morgan Rogers responds to Jordan Henderson’s message amid Sunderland links

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has responded to a message from England international teammate and former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The Three Lions limped to an unconvincing 1-0 win over minnows Andorra in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, 7 June.

Thomas Tuchel’s men then went on to suffer a somewhat embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Tuesday, 10 June.

But both Rogers and former Sunderland man Henderson will hope to be involved in the England squad once again for the Three Lions’ home fixture against Andorra on 6 September.

Rogers responds as Henderson calls for England togetherness

After finishing second in the Dutch Eredivisie with Ajax, Henderson has been linked with a Sunderland return.

Meanwhile, after England’s disappointing results, the midfielder took to Instagram on Thursday, 12 June, as he wrote: “Always an honour. Always things to learn. Always together.

“Time to recharge the batteries.”

Aston Villa ace Rogers commented with a microphone emoji.

Sunderland should swoop for Henderson return

After Sunderland clinched promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2017 via last month’s dramatic playoff final victory over Sheffield United, Regis Le Bris faces a huge transfer window as he looks to ready his squad for the top flight.

Henderson could return to Sunderland

The Black Cats were already in for a difficult challenge as they aim to bridge the gap between the Championship and the top tier, after witnessing Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton all suffer immediate relegation back to the second tier.

But Le Bris’ task has now been made even tougher after Tommy Watson left for Brighton, and Jobe Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund.

However, the potential acquisition of Henderson would add much-needed Premier League experience to Sunderland’s ranks as they brace themselves for a likely relegation battle.

After joining Liverpool from the North East club in 2011, the England midfielder helped the Reds win the top-flight title in 2020, proving his class.

Meanwhile, Ian Darke evaluated whether Le Bris could leave Sunderland in a Mackem News exclusive.
