Morgan Rogers responds to Ollie Watkins’ message amid Man United links

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has responded to a message shared by Ollie Watkins amid Man United’s interest in the striker.

The striker is one of the West Midlands club’s most prized assets, having become their all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League last season.

Largely thanks to the 29-year-old’s efforts, Aston Villa finished sixth in the top flight last season and reached the Champions League quarter-finals.

But amid his strong performances for Unai Emery’s men, Manchester United are interested in Watkins as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his attack.

Alongside Watkins, Rogers was one of Villa’s star players last season, notching 14 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

Meanwhile, the former Brentford man posted a series of photos on Instagram on Friday, 4 July, captioned: “Summer 25.”

Rogers liked the post as well as commenting: “One to remember,” alongside a red heart emoji.

Emery should not sell Watkins this summer

Football Insider verdict

After failing to land another season of Champions League football, Aston Villa are not in the strongest financial position possible ahead of next season, and may need to facilitate a big sale ahead of next season.

Watkins is a key asset for Villa

However, Watkins is not a player who Emery is willing to offload this summer, as he remains a crucial player, having notched 17 goals and 14 assists last term.

Meanwhile, after Marcus Rashford returned to Man United following his successful loan stint with Villa, Emery does not boast much attacking depth in the striker position beyond Watkins.

The England international scored more goals in the Premier League last season than the likes of Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer and Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, showing that he would be a difficult man for any top-flight side to part company with, let alone a Villa outfit who sold fellow striker Jhon Duran in the winter transfer window.

Elsewhere, Marco Asensio has been tipped to return to Emery’s side in a Villa News exclusive.
