Morgan Rogers reacts to James McAtee’s passionate message as Man City exit beckons

James McAtee posted a passionate message to supporters amid ongoing speculation surrounding his Manchester City future.

The midfielder has endured a frustrating season at the Etihad, with Man City failing to win a single piece of silverware for the first time in eight years during the 2024/25 campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side finished third in the Premier League, marking their lowest top-flight finish since the 2016/17 season.

McAtee featured for just 936 minutes across all competitions this season, with only three Premier League starts to his name. His limited game time has only added fuel to speculation that he could be on his way out of the club this summer.

Although he stayed put during the January window, reports now suggest a move is likely. Football Insider revealed that Nottingham Forest have sent scouts to the UEFA Under-21 European Championship to monitor McAtee closely ahead of a potential deal.

Despite the transfer talk, the England youth international appears fully focused on the tournament, sharing a heartfelt message with fans as speculation continues to grow around his next move.

Despite losing their final group match to Germany, England have still progressed to the quarter-finals of the Under-21 European Championship.

Players such as Harvey Elliott have reacted to England’s advancement on social media, and McAtee has now joined in with a message of his own.

He wrote: “Another step forward, Together!”

The post drew plenty of responses, with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford commenting with raised hand emojis, while Morgan Rogers, Nathan Ake and Adam Wharton all liked the post.

It’s been a mixed campaign for England so far, having drawn, lost, and won one game each, and they are now set to face Spain on 21 June in the next round.

Meanwhile, Football Insider previously reported in May that Nottingham Forest are monitoring McAtee’s situation at Man City and are considering a summer move, although it remains to be seen whether formal talks will take place.

McAtee may not be the only player heading for the exit at the Etihad this summer, with Kyle Walker also expected to move on.

Everton are believed to have made contact over a potential deal for Walker, who fell out with Pep Guardiola earlier in the season.

Walker’s high wages could be a hurdle, but with Ashley Young having already confirmed his departure from the club, the England international’s experience could be a valuable addition for the Toffees.
