Morgan Rogers responds to Liam Delap as Chelsea transfer rumours continue

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has been linked with Chelsea over the past few weeks, and he has responded to Liam Delap amid the rumours.

The 22-year-old had a fruitful Premier League campaign for Villa, scoring eight goals and picking up 10 assists in his 37 appearances as Unai Emery’s side missed out on Champions League football on the final day.

The Midlands-based side looked set to clinch a top-five spot until Rogers had a goal wrongly disallowed against Manchester United, on the way to defeat at Old Trafford.

Villa missed out on £200million as a result of the controversial refereeing decision, and are now struggling to meet the PSR regulations.

Rogers rumoured for Villa exit

Aston Villa’s former CEO Keith Wyness exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Villa need to raise £150m-200m, to avoid a penalty for overspending.

Other clubs are eager to take advantage of the situation the Villans find themselves in, and Rogers has already been linked with Chelsea, as well as Manchester City.

Liam Delap has already completed a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and could make his debut against Los Angeles FC in the Club World Cup.

Delap took to Instagram to share a number of photos of his preparations in America, with former Man City academy teammate Rogers commenting: “My boy.”

Villa desperate to keep hold of Rogers

Football Insider Verdict

However, despite the interest it has been revealed that Aston Villa are planning to turn down any offers for Morgan Rogers this summer as they do not want to lose him.

This is according to their former chief scout Mick Brown, who also worked for Man United and Blackburn and claims that Unai Emery is “confident” of keeping the 22-year-old beyond the transfer window.

There is a belief that there are other sellable assets at the club who are more likely to leave than Rogers as things stand.

It is unknown quite how bad the financial situation at Villa Park is, but if they are able to pick and choose which of their players they sell, then they may be in a better position than first thought.

It has been a real breakout year for Rogers, and if the Midlands-based side can keep hold of him, then they will benefit hugely from his contributions next season.
