Morgan Rogers shares thrilled response in message after new Aston Villa deal agreed

Aston Villa have finally secured a new contract breakthrough amid the uncertainty over Morgan Rogers’ future.

Unai Emery has weathered a storm of speculation at Villa Park this summer as interest in Rogers grows from some of the Premier League’s biggest hitters, despite Aston Villa‘s adamance that he is not for sale.

Rogers‘ £8million move from Middlesbrough in January 2024 has proven to be a huge bargain after he recorded 29 goal contributions in all competitions last season, with 14 scored and a further 15 assists.

Aston Villa have placed a £100m price tag on Rogers’ head amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester City, but with PSR still a very real concern at Villa Park, the 22-year-old’s future is still up in the air.

Aston Villa announce new contract for Unai Emery favourite

Rogers’ current deal at Villa Park runs until 2030 and was only signed in November, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation over his future from continuing as PSR issues threaten to bite the Villans.

Boubacar Kamara is another key Aston Villa player who had attracted interest as his contract entered its final two years, but Emery and Villa’s sporting director Monchi took steps to address that speculation.

Aston Villa announced on 24 July that Kamara had signed a new deal until 2030 in a post on Instagram, as the France international was pictured alongside Emery and Monchi with a contract signed and sealed.

Rogers shared Kamara and Villa’s announcement post on his own Instagram story, captioning it with four ‘heart eyes’ emojis.

Aston Villa braced for widespread exits amid PSR concerns

Football Insider Verdict

Ex-Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 16 July that Rogers is open to a move to Chelsea this summer despite Aston Villa’s continued stance, which makes clear that he is their prize asset.

A £100m transfer valuation certainly suggests as much, although Ollie Watkins is another player whose transfer and wage costs could total £100m if a proposed move to Newcastle United comes to fruition.

Villa are in no mood to lose Watkins, Rogers or the similarly exit-linked Jacob Ramsey this summer, but with their PSR worries unlikely to subside after missing out on the Champions League, Emery could yet be forced to sacrifice one of his star men.
