Kevin Phillips claims Jose Mourinho has no reason to moan with the Tottenham boss reportedly unhappy that he only has four days to prepare for the League Cup final.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, did admit that Mourinho would be able to handle his side’s less than ideal new schedule.
The Mirror claim that Mourinho is far from happy with only having four days to prepare for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City after the latest round of fixture changes.
Spurs will face Southampton a few days before the final due to the Saints’ involvement in the latter stages of the FA Cup but Phillips insists that Mourinho can’t complain.
“It’s not ideal but I think I’ve heard Mourinho say that numerous times this season, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“It is what it is, we have to play those games. It’s a one-off season and he can’t moan about it now it’s come round to his team.
“He’ll deal with it but it’s not ideal. Tottenham are so desperate, they need to win some silverware.
“It’s a big game for them and he’d love to win some silverware and Mourinho would love a bit more time.
“Sometimes that can help you because the players will be ready and at it. It’ll be interesting to see what happens there.”
Tottenham will travel to Wembley looking to end their 13-year trophy hoodoo by beating the side who have won the competition four times in the last five years.
Spurs are also still in the hunt for a top-four finish in the Premier League with just nine games to go before the end of the season.
