'Flexibility and firepower' - Murty delivers verdict on Rangers new recruits

Rangers manager Graeme Murty believes the Ibrox side’s January signings will improve the players already in his squad and thinks they will bring “flexibility and firepower” to his side.
The Gers have signed Jason Cummings, Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss and Russell Martin so far this month as Murty rebuilds the squad he inherited from Pedro Caixinha in October.
Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena is the only player who could be considered a first-team player that has left the club yet but Murty believes the new faces can push those who have been at Ibrox a while to “take their level up.”
“I’m pleased with the business we have done, and that business gives us the flexibility and firepower,” Murty said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“If you see our training today, I believe already they have had a massive impact already.
“The tempo and quality of it has gone up, and it is good to challenge our players who have maybe been here for a while to take their level up a bit.
“They have been really enjoying that challenge, and it’s all to the good for me, so now it’s down to me to pick the right team.”
The Gers return to domestic action on Wednesday night when they take on Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Murty’s side know a win will take them above the Dons in the league table on goal difference as they look to consolidate second place and make up ground on runaway leaders Celtic.
Murty has already faced the Pittodrie side twice since taking over from Caixinha in October with the Ibrox giants coming out on top both times as rumours that McInnes would replace Caixinha on a long-term basis reached fever pitch.
The Gers did make an approach for the former Ibrox midfielder but the 43-year-old decided to remain with the Dons.
