The move has generally been met with bemusement by fans, but one claimed that his ‘heart skipped a beat’ as he was worried that Barton had been appointed as Graeme Murty’s successor at Ibrox.
However, more than one fan wished the player ‘good luck’ with one going as far as to say that he would be a ‘great head coach’.
Here are some of the best reactions from Gers fans on Twitter to Barton’s appointment:
My heart just skipped a beat when I heard Joey Barton was moving into management, thankfully not as Murty's replacement!!!!

Barton’s time at Ibrox won’t go down as one of the highlights of his footballing career. He was signed with lots of hype, but put in a dreadful performance against Scott Brown in a 5-1 loss to Celtic in his first meaningful game for the Gers.
Not long after that came his ‘difference of opinion’ with Mark Warburton, and his inevitable departure from Ibrox.
