Nathan Patterson moves closer to Everton exit as transfer approach made
Nathan Patterson’s future at Everton looks bleak as they enter negotiations to sign Sporting CP right-back Georgios Vagiannidis.
Patterson recently completed his fourth full season at Everton since an £11million move from Rangers in January 2022.
The Scotland international moved to Merseyside as a highly-rated 20-year-old prospect, but has failed to live up to expectations due to constant injury issues.
He spent the 2025-26 campaign as backup to Jake O’Brien, who is a centre-back by trade, and will surely be assessing his future ahead of the summer window.
It looks as if Everton are planning to sign a new right-back as they hold talks to sign Vagiannidis, with Patterson seeming more likely to leave as a result.

Patterson struggled with familiar injury issues in the early stages of the season, but mostly continued to watch on after returning to full fitness in December.
The 24-year-old only made eight appearances in all competitions in 2025-26, with David Moyes regularly choosing O’Brien to feature from the off instead of him.

He was linked with a move away in the winter window, but did not leave Everton, and must now be weighing up his future with just one year left on his contract as it stands.
Patterson does not look to be in line for increased minutes under Moyes anytime soon, and the Toffees are now looking to bolster their right-back ranks as Vagiannidis is linked.
Portuguese outlet A Bola have reported that Everton have enquired about signing the Sporting defender in the upcoming transfer window.
Vagiannidis notched seven assists in 32 appearances for Sporting last term after joining for around £11m from Panathinaikos, and they are looking to recoup a similar fee this summer.
He would surely arrive on Merseyside as a first-choice right-back under Moyes, thus pushing Patterson even further down the pecking order for minutes.
Who could Patterson join this summer?
Recent reports out of Scotland have claimed that Patterson is not planning to hold contract talks with Everton until after the World Cup.
He can put himself into the shop window with some strong performances in North America, especially as a move close to home is mooted.
He was touted with a move back to Ibrox in January, but sources revealed to Football Insider that Rangers were not interested in Patterson at that point due to the right-back options at Danny Rohl’s disposal.
James Tavernier and Max Aarons are both leaving the club this summer, though, and so Rohl could well be interested in signing the 24-year-old ahead of next term.
