Nathaniel Clyne has claimed that he is the second quickest player in the Liverpool side – behind only in-form attacker Sadio Mane.
The 25-year-old right-back also claimed that he is quicker than Spaniard Alberto Moreno, who is known for his electrifying speed on the left flank.
Speaking to Goal.com, the defender was full of praise for his former Southampton teammate Mane, claiming it would be a close race between the two Liverpool stars.
“Me and him in a race? That would be tough and a close one,” Clyne said.
“I have to say, he is faster, definitely when he is on the ball anyway. The top three are Sadio, then me and then Alberto [Moreno].”
“He [Mane] is quality, he always wants the ball. You can see when he gets the ball that he is always looking forward and his first intention is to get at the defence and cause problems.”
Mane scored a superb brace on Sunday as Liverpool demolished Walter Mazzarri’s Watford 6-1 to go above Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.
The Senegal international has now scored six Premier League goals in just 10 games, as he looks to repay the hefty £35million transfer fee that was spent to bring him to Anfield in the summer.
Currently with the England squad, Clyne is expected to rival Tottenham star Kyle Walker for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s side to face Scotland on Friday in Group F of the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Three Lions also face Spain on November 14, as interim boss Southgate looks to secure the job on a permanent basis.
