Ndombele knows he’s finished under Conte as Tottenham exit is ‘happening’ – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Tanguy Ndombele knows there is no future for him at Tottenham with the January transfer window open.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted Spurs would try to offload the 25-year-old this month but may have to wait until the summer.

When asked what role Ndombele has to play in the Tottenham squad, as quoted by Sky Sports on Friday (31 December), Antonio Conte simply replied: “He’s a midfielder.”

He refused to be drawn on the Frenchman’s future, stating he would hold talks with the club’s hierarchy to discuss the situation.

However, Whelan suggested Ndombele would be well aware he does not have a place in the Italian’s plans.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think it’s a polite way of saying he’s not sure what his role is at Tottenham.

“He’s a very experienced manager. He knows what he meant to say.

“I’m pretty sure the player knows the destiny of his career at Tottenham. If it is something that if can be sorted out in January with a loan or a sale, I’m sure it’s happening.

“If not they’ll still be looking to make that move happen for Ndombele in the summer.

“It’s three managers now that haven’t got the best out of him. They’ve said there’s an attitude problem. It can’t just be managers now, can it?”

Ndombele has started just twice under Conte since the Italian’s arrival in north London.

He was named among the substitutes once again for Saturday’s clash with Watford.
