Neal Maupay is a ‘weasel’ & ‘horrible’ – Everton ‘paymaster’ storm intensifies
Neal Maupay has been hammered by Tony Bellew for his comments about Everton after the club’s defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The striker has endured a challenging spell with the Toffees in which he scored just once in 32 games, and is still their player, albeit he is currently on loan with French side Marseille, a deal which could become permanent in the summer.
Even so, he has not held back with his thoughts on the club. After Sean Dyche’s side lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest on Sunday (29 December), Maupay wrote on social media that checking the Toffees’ score makes him smile.
That has clearly not gone down well with former boxer and Everton fan Bellew, who has issued a stinging verdict on the 28-year-old.
Speaking to talkSPORT about what he made of Maupay’s comments, the former WBC cruiserweight champion said: “It’s not the nicest thing to be done by a player who is obviously on the payroll.
“He’s a muppet. When Everton are doing okay, you don’t hear a murmur out of the little squeak – the weasel.
“But the minute Everton are losing or underperforming, then the weasel shows up. It’s just very, very sad, and he should worry about the team he’s actually playing for because while he was at Everton, the last thing he did was play football – he was useless.
“I just don’t understand why he is having a go at his paymasters. Brighton were desperate to get him out; we just didn’t know what we were taking, but we’ve found out he’s a little, horrible wind-up merchant, so he is what he is.”
Everton fans will be done with Neal Maupay now
Football Insider Opinion
It is hard to imagine there will be any supporters of the club who do not share the same view as Bellew when it comes to Maupay.
The striker already had a strained relationship with the Everton fanbase which will not have been helped by the fact he never seemed to perform for them on the pitch.
Having fallen short in that respect, the fact he is now taking shots at the club from behind a keyboard is going to cause even more frustration among the fanbase.

Of course, Maupay has always styled himself as something of a joker who likes to poke fun when it comes to others.
But to do so with Everton when he is still their player feels hugely disrespectful and there is surely now no way back for him on Merseyside.
The Toffees are apparently set to deal with this matter internally, but given how much anger it has caused, there will surely be plenty of supporters keen to know just if and how Maupay is to be punished.
