‘Sunderland set for Nectar Triantis decision as Hibs close in’

Sunderland will have to decide Nectar Triantis’ future at the Stadium of Light amid interest from Hibernian.

The midfielder spent this season on loan from the North East outfit with the Scottish Premiership side, notching three goals and six assists in 34 top-flight outings.

Triantis’ most recent goal contribution for Hibs came during their 3-1 win over Dundee United on 3 May, when he set up Mykola Kukharevych’s goal.

Meanwhile, parent club Sunderland won promotion back to the Premier League via their Championship playoff final win over Sheffield United at Wembley on Saturday, 24 May.

Hibernian want to sign Triantis permanently

Triantis was a key asset for Hibernian this term, helping the Edinburgh club seal a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

According to the Hibs Observer, [29 May], David Gray’s men are exploring the possibility of signing the 22-year-old permanently.

The man on loan from Sunderland won Hibernian’s Young Player of the Year award thanks to his stellar performances at Easter Road.

Football Insider verdict

Sunderland could be willing to part company with Triantis

The fact that the Black Cats allowed Triantis to join Hibs on loan demonstrates that Regis Le Bris did not believe the former Australia Under-20 international’s services were required to help his side win promotion to the Premier League.

Triantis has shone on loan at Hibernian

Although the midfielder performed well north of the border, Sunderland’s decision to allow him to go on loan proved to be the right option, as they returned to the top flight thanks to the efforts of the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Dan Neil, and Chris Rigg in the engine room.

Now that the Mackems have earned promotion back to the Premier League, the prospect of Triantis enjoying more game time at the Stadium of Light appears unlikely.

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Bellingham has verbally agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.

However, the England Under-21 international’s exit may not be enough to hand Triantis a starting berth in Le Bris’ side, whereas he could continue to shine in Hibernian colours.

Elsewhere, Mackem News have exclusively revealed that Jordan Henderson would favour a move back to Sunderland over joining Rangers.
