‘Needs to be an investigation’ – Liverpool fans rage at ‘unreal’ VAR call in 2-0 win over Burnley

Liverpool fans are enraged that VAR chalked off Harvey Elliott’s second-half strike in their 2-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day.

VAR denied Jurgen Klopp’s side the chance to double their lead in the 56th minute when Mohamed Salah was deemed to have blocked Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford’s view from an offside position.

Elliott finished off a neat passage of play from inside the box after a clever one-two with midfield ace Ryan Gravenberch.

The Reds still cruised to victory at Turf Moor after substitute Diogo Jota marked his return from injury with a sensational finish from a tight angle in the 90th minute.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring in the early stages of the game but Liverpool fans were apoplectic over the VAR officials’ decision, headed by Simon Hooper from Stockley Park.

Liverpool supporters were on the receiving end of another controversial call against Vincent Kompany’s strugglers when referee Paul Tierney did not award Cody Gapko’s first-half goal after he spotted a foul by Nunez in the build-up.
