Neil Warnock couldn’t have been more wrong about Bryan Mbeumo joining Man United

Manchester United’s rapid turnaround under Ruben Amorim is largely down to the form of Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo was on the scoresheet during Man United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool and bagged a brace as the Red Devils secured a 4-2 victory over Brighton.

Ruben Amorim’s men have now won their last three Premier League matches, with Mbeumo’s qualities playing a vital role.

Football Insider’s Matt Le Tissier even showered Mbeumo with praise after his start to life at Old Trafford, while Neil Warnock has been left red-faced.

Neil Warnock questioned Man United signing Bryan Mbeumo

Mbeumo joined Man United on the back of a 20-goal campaign in the Premier League, with the 26-year-old proving his quality at the highest level.

Yet, after making the switch to a bigger club, Warnock questioned whether he could handled the pressures of playing for United.

“I think he’s a good player, I just think he’s been playing for Brentford, and no disrespect to Brentford but that’s not a Man United,” Warnock said in an interview with talkSPORT in July.

“I don’t think he’s come up against the pressures that he’s going to get at Old Trafford.”

Unsurprisingly, Warnock’s opinion has been humbled by the Cameroon international, who has six goal involvements in his first 10 appearances for the club.

Wayne Rooney was also ‘unsure’ about Mbeumo

It’s never easy playing for a big club like Manchester United, especially during difficult times, but Mbeumo has relished the pressure.

The former Brentford star boasts the flair, speed and directness in the final third that United have been crying out for.

After showcasing his remarkable talent, Mbeumo has also proven Wayne Rooney wrong, as the 40-year-old was initially ‘unsure’ about whether he could live up to expectations.

“His [Bryan Mbeumo’s] energy, his work-rate, his desire, is what you need to be a United player,” Rooney said on his BBC Sport podcast.

“I did say that I was a little bit unsure about Mbeumo, but I think what he’s shown is he belongs there.

“He’s been consistent with his performances, I think that’s the main thing. If you’re consistently getting into the right positions and getting chances, you will score 20 goals a season.”

Even when United were struggling under Amorim, Mbeumo was one of the few who could hold his head high, and he’s now an integral part of their fast breaks on the counter-attack.
