Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has revealed that he was only ever interested in playing for the Hoops and didn’t hesitate for a second about signing a new long-term deal with the club.
The 19-year-old first teamer signed a new four-year deal with the Hoops on Monday, and despite four clubs including Tottenham and Borussia Dormund being reported interested in signing the defender, according to TeamTalk, he wanted to continue his progress with the Scottish champions.
“It was never in doubt” he said, according to the Scottish Sun.
“When you play for Celtic and perform in such a good team there will always be interest but for me it will always be about Celtic and when that opportunity came up for a new contract I wasn’t in any doubt.
“I have never been interested in hearing about any of the interest levels.”
Ajer has been a huge success in his first full season with the Hoops and will be a key man for the Bhoys as they look to complete the domestic treble against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday.

Hoops fans will be delighted to hear Ajer’s comments, that despite interest from other clubs, he only wanted to continue his career with the Bhoys. Brendan Rodgers has to take a lot of credit for Ajer’s performances, as he had no doubt about putting the player in the first-team following the 4-0 loss to Hearts in December, and since then the player has established himself as a regular and could be a mainstay of the Hoops team for many years to come. Now the Hoops boss will looking for a centre-back partner to play alongside the 19-year-old, as with Dedryck Boyata’s contract running out at the end of next season there is no guarantee that he will be with the Hoops long-term, perhaps Jack Hendry is the man for the job, he will certainly be given the chance to prove that he is good enough next season when the Bhoys begin their Champions League qualifiers.
