Phil Neville believes Tottenham goalscorer Harry Kane would be an ‘ideal’ signing for Manchester United, but he does not expect it to happen.
The Premier League giants are likely to add another goalscorer to their ranks this summer, having been linked with several quality players, including Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
The Sun claim both United and champions Chelsea are interested in signing Lukaku this summer, but they add that Everton are demanding a world-record fee of £100million for his services.
Lukaku topped the goalscoring charts at Goodison Park for the fourth successive season, with 26 goals from 39 appearances in all competitions.
However, ex-Everton defender Neville does not believe that Lukaku would ‘fit in’ at Old Trafford, insisting his Premier League goalscoring rival Kane would be his ‘ideal’ choice.
But Neville also admitted that Kane was an unlikely prospect to move to the club this summer, and instead urged Jose Mourinho to move for one of Gareth Bale or Antoine Griezmann.
He told TalkSport: “I’m not so sure [Lukaku would fit in at Man United. I would prefer United to go out and get Gareth Bale or Antoine Griezmann, I really would.
“I have watched Lukaku and I am a big fan, but I see him in the big games and I don’t see a player that grabs and wins a big game on his own. I still think there are question marks against Lukaku.
“I think the ideal signing would be Harry Kane – but I don’t think United will get him. But Griezmann and Bale, I think these are the players that can take United closer to winning the Premier League.”
Kane, meanwhile, has drawn the plaudits by winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot award for the second year running.
The Tottenham star netted 35 goals from 38 appearances in all competitions this season, including an impressive five hat-tricks, with seven goals coming from his last two matches.
