New unseen footage of Unai Emery shows he was lying after Arsenal win vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery did not shake Mikel Arteta’s hand after his side were smashed by Arsenal on Tuesday.

Arsenal beat Villa 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium, putting an end to streak that had seen Emery‘s team win 11 games across all competitions.

The home side took the lead in the second half through Gabriel, before Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus would complete a 30-minute demolition job on the Villans.

Ollie Watkins scored in stoppage time against Arsenal, but the striker would rue the chances he had squandered in the first half.

Piero Hincapie was among the standouts for Arsenal against Villa, as they looked to return to the team who had dominated the early part of the season.

Unai Emery caught out in new footage

Games between Emery’s Villa and Arteta’s Arsenal have always had a bit of bite, considering the former PSG boss was his predecessor at the Emirates Stadium.

But between the managers themselves, the relationship on the touchline has always remained cordial.

Arteta has spoken well about Emery in press conferences, and vice versa, with the pair sharing a bond in the fact that they were both born in the Basque region of Spain.

Following Tuesday’s game, however, the niceties seemed to vanish. The Villa boss did not wait to shake his opposition manager’s hand, with Arteta left looking puzzled on the touchline.

“After the match, always my routine is quick, shake hands and go with my coaches, with my players, or go to the dressing room,” he explained to Sky Sports.

“And I was waiting, I was waiting. Of course, he was happy and he was with his coaches and I decided to go inside. But for me, no problem.”

However, footage that tells a slightly different story has emerged from the dugout following the game.

Upon hearing the final whistle, Emery immediately bolted for the tunnel, pausing only briefly to shake the fourth official’s hand.

What Mikel Arteta said about Emery moment

An understandably delighted Arteta addressed the handshake incident with Emery in his post-match press conference, and insisted there was no issue.

“You saw but it’s ok, it’s all good,” the Arsenal manager said with a grin on his face.

“No that’s ok, that’s part of the game and it’s not an issue at all,” he added when asked if he was disappointed with the moment.

The pair are not due to meet until next season, although the FA Cup could throw up a spicy revisiting of what has been an action-packed two meetings between the sides.
