New West Brom relegation prediction made by supercomputer after Blackburn Rovers win
West Brom are now being predicted to be relegated from the Championship this season by Opta’s supercomputer.
West Brom have been near the bottom of the second tier throughout this campaign, and now face a 37.56 per cent chance of dropping into League One alongside Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday.
Portsmouth are being backed to finish in 21st, with a 33 per cent chance of relegation, while Blackburn‘s weekend victory over QPR has lifted them to a 27.78 per cent chance of going down.
Rovers brought in Michael O’Neill as their new manager ahead of their Saturday clash at Loftus Road, and his presence in the dugout helped boost the players to a vital 3-1 win.
The Baggies did not partake in Championship action as they lost to Norwich City in the FA Cup, but the weekend’s developments have had a negative effect on their chances of survival.

West Brom set for relegation after latest Championship fixtures
Sheffield Wednesday scored for the first time in 2026 against Millwall on Saturday, but lost 2-1 to remain on minus seven points, with relegation potentially set to be confirmed next week against rivals Sheffield United.
Oxford, meanwhile, also took part in FA Cup action as they lost 1-0 to Sunderland, but five points still separate them and 21st-placed Portsmouth, who also have two games in hand.
Both of those clubs look set for a return to the third-tier, meaning the final space in the relegation zone is the one that around six sides are vying to avoid.
The Baggies may not have played a league game over the weekend, but Rovers’ three points have lifted them ahead of Eric Ramsay‘s side into 19th.
Their 3-1 loss to Norwich extended West Brom’s winless run to seven games, and Opta‘s supercomputer is now predicting them to be playing in League One next season.
Who is being backed to make up the Championship top six?
The race to finish in the top six in the second tier is just as tight, with only four points between Derby County in sixth and QPR in 14th.
Opta can see the battle going right down to the wire come May, with Southampton now predicted to finish sixth, with a 25.44 per cent chance compared to Derby’s 24.62.

Millwall and Hull City are each set to remain in the playoff places, while the predicted automatic promotion places are filled by Middlesbrough and Coventry City.
Ipswich Town miss out on second place by three expected points, according to the supercomputer, with a 34 per cent chance of promotion compared to the Sky Blues’ 65.18.
