New Wilfried Nancy sack claim made just moments after Man United dismiss Ruben Amorim
Wilfried Nancy is facing yet more questions over his future at Celtic Park after the shocking sacking of Man United manager Ruben Amorim.
Celtic fans are furious with Nancy after the Hoops fell to an embarrassing defeat against Rangers on Saturday, 3 January, conceding three times after Hyun-Jun Yang netted the opener.
Danny Rohl is already a much-loved figure at Ibrox, with the Gers now level on points with their Old Firm rivals after claiming a rare victory away at Celtic Park.
However, the biggest news of the day is Man United’s decision to sack Amorim following his outburst at the board, coming shortly after his side drew 1-1 with Leeds United on Sunday, 4 January.
He follows suit after Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca, and Chris Sutton has now raised a poignant question about Nancy as he continues to struggle under the buckling pressure in Scotland.
Celtic board to face more questions as Chris Sutton speaks out
The Celtic boss has won just two of his eight games in charge, recording a 25 per cent win rate, only winning against Aberdeen and Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.
Immediately reacting to the news from Old Trafford, Sutton wrote: “With Amorim getting sacked and being a stickler for 3-4-3, I wonder whether the Celtic board take heed if one way Wilf won’t adapt…”
Three centre-backs in the Old Firm derby clearly backfired, especially as Auston Trusty was destroyed by Celtic fans, and he could soon follow Amorim’s fate at Celtic Park.
Nancy was even trolled by Dujon Sterling, a new low for the former Columbus Crew manager, as the defender used his X post against him, which has now become iconic at Ibrox.
Who could replace Wilfried Nancy at Celtic Park?
Shaun Maloney is now the favourite to replace Nancy, just one month after being appointed by the Hoops, and supporters are beginning to regret Brendan Rodgers‘ departure.
It would certainly not be a surprise to see the 48-year-old given his marching orders already, and the hardest part will be trying to find another replacement.
Of course, a lot of the questions being aimed at the under-pressure manager should be answered by the board, and that was evident as fans sang “sack the board” during the defeat to Rangers.
It is already a long way back for the Frenchman, but if he changes his ways and adapts, much like Amorim couldn’t, there is still hope for him in Scotland.
