Newcastle and Liverpool on red alert as Alex Toth’s agent shares transfer premonition
Alex Toth’s agent has opened up on the interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.
The Hungarian midfielder has caught the eye with his performances so far this season, and that has seen him attract glances from several Premier League sides.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on Friday that Newcastle and Liverpool are both chasing Toth, while Brighton are also keeping tabs on his current situation.
The Ferencvaros star is in demand after some impressive displays so far in 2025/26, and a big move now appears to be rapidly approaching on the horizon after what his agent has just said.
Newcastle and Liverpool seem prepared to battle each other for the 20-year-old’s signature, and they will surely have been put on red alert after these comments.

Alex Toth’s agent expects transfer amid unprecedented interest
Football Insider revealed that Toth could be available for as little as £13million in the next few transfer windows, and that price will surely entice the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool.
There is also interest in the starlet from the Bundesliga, which adds a sense of urgency to their pursuit for both of the Premier League duo.
The nine-cap Hungary international is under contract at Ferencvaros until the summer of 2027, and has quickly become a key player for them, having already notched six goal contributions from 22 games this term.
However, Toth’s agent has now made it clear that he will leave the Budapest giants in the summer “at the latest,” in an update that is sure to have Eddie Howe and Arne Slot on their toes.
“Due to the dynamics of the market, I can’t say whether he (Toth) will change clubs this winter or next summer,” Bence Papp told Hungarian outlet Mandiner.
“Naturally, I do not want to comment on the rumours, but I can tell you that it is worth monitoring his situation. We’re not giving away anything if we say that this will happen in the summer at the latest.
“I can make that statement, because there is an interest in him that I don’t think has been seen in the last ten years around a young Hungarian player playing in Hungary.
“This transfer, which could take place in the summer at the latest, will fundamentally change the perception of Hungarian football on the international market.”
Here’s why Alex Toth may prefer Liverpool move over Newcastle
Dominik Szoboszlai has become increasingly important for Liverpool since his move from RB Leipzig back in 2023, and he could play a key role in Toth’s decision as to who he joins next.
As a young Hungarian midfielder, there have naturally been comparisons between Toth and the Reds’ star, and it would be no surprise to ultimately see him decide to follow in the footsteps of his international teammate.
Slot’s current group at Anfield would arguably be harder for Toth to break into than that of Newcastle, but with the future of Szoboszlai himself uncertain at the moment, there could be a situation arise where Hungary’s last midfield prodigy is replaced by its latest one.
They and the Magpies seemingly may have to wait until the summer to get a deal done, but it would be a huge surprise if one of the clubs doesn’t ultimately get their man.
