Newcastle are sacking Bruce ‘soon’ after ‘latest’ – ex-striker

Frank McAvennie insists Newcastle United will sack Steve Bruce this season after a rough start to the campaign.

The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest happenings at St James’ Park.

Newcastle have lost all three of their competitive matches this season in uninspiring fashion.

The latest loss was on Wednesday night as Bruce’s side lost to Burnley on penalties in the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle dominated the game but their second-string side couldn’t find a way past Wayne Hennessey in the Burnley net.

McAvennie insists Bruce will lose his job this season, it’s just a matter of when.

“They are going to sack Bruce soon after the latest events,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s going to happen but that won’t change anything. There might be a change at the start.

“The club needs an overhaul, how many times has it been said?

“Bruce doesn’t help himself, does he? He’s under pressure, I get that, but he comes out with some daft things.

“That’s probably just him giving a bit back because he gets so much abuse.

“It’s been a really bad start for them and they need that first win to come soon.

“If they go into the international break with no points there will be hell on.”

Newcastle United

Newcastle face Southampton at St James’ Park on Saturday as they look to pick up their first points of the season.

The Magpies have already lost to West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League.
