Newcastle backed to complete 'brilliant' Fofana signing after approach - pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Newcastle United should think about the “longevity” of any potential incomings in order to create a “nice blend” of talent.
As such, the former Leeds striker – speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a mooted move for 20-year-old Leicester star Wesley Fofana would be a “brilliant” signing.
As reported by French outlet RMC Sport (12th October), Newcastle have “made contact” with the youngster’s entourage about a potential move to the Tyneside club.
Fofana is currently sidelined after suffering a horrific leg break in pre-season and is not expected to return until the new year at the earliest.
The France U21 international made 38 appearances last term after costing Leicester a reported £36.5million last summer.
He helped Leicester secure a maiden FA Cup triumph as well as a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

Whelan insisted “brilliant” Fofana would be a signing with “longevity”.
He also suggested Newcastle will also need to add some “experienced” stars in order to thrive in the top flight.
“Fofana is a brilliant young player, one for the future – but he knows the Premier League already,” Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“They need a nice blend of players through the door.
“They have to think about the longevity of the team, rather than just getting 12 – 18 months out of a player.
“It’s important to have a stable squad. They can do that by bringing in youngsters but also 28–29-year-olds who will give you experience.
“They need those leadership skills in the squad through players who have that experience playing in the Premier League.
“David Moyes has got the blueprint at West Ham.
“He trimmed the squad, brought in British-based talent and overseas players he knew would have the right attitude.”
