Newcastle circle attack star ahead of transfer window as new PSR update emerges
Newcastle United have watched Lyon winger Rayan Cherki as they consider a move for him in January transfer window, The i have reported.
Eddie Howe will be keen to strengthen his side at the turn of the year, as they look to build on a promising start to the campaign, and it is thought that the Magpies are scouting Cherki, as they look to add to their wide options at St James’ Park.
Lyon have been informed they will be relegated at the end of this season if they are unable to raise funds amid a dire financial situation at the French club [Financial Times].
Football Insider previously reported that the Magpies are also keen to sign Jonathan David from Lille, and they are still said to be keen on the striker.
There was a recent blow for Howe’s side with the news that the Premier League have changed their APT rules [Guardian], which will limit the funds they can receive from sponsors with connection to owners PIF.
However, there is said to be no PSR “iceberg” for Newcastle this January as there was in the summer, meaning they can spend even if that will have to be caveated with sales as well.
Rayan Cherki would be a good signing for Newcastle to make
Football Insider Opinion
It does feel as though the signing of Cherki has the potential to be a good one for the Magpies if they can get it done.
The wide areas are a position in which they will need to strengthen in January, especially with it looking as though Miguel Almiron could be moved on.
In Cherki, Newcastle would be getting someone to fill that void who has also shown that he can play at the very top level.

At 21-years-old, he is a much longer-term option in that role, and with Liverpool also among those to be linked with him [Liverpool Echo], it would be a coup for the Magpies.
The combination of Howe’s side having some breathing space with PSR, and Lyon being under pressure to sell, will help their pursuit of him as well.
These links with Cherki should mean there is some reason for Newcastle and co. to be excited about what might be to come in the January window.
